How overweight works in New Jersey
New Jersey issues an annual overweight permit for sealed ocean containers moving to and from the port district — up to 90,000 lbs gross vehicle weight on designated routes with tri-axle equipment. That permit, the right chassis, and a dispatcher who knows the approved routing are the difference between a legal move and a very expensive scale ticket.
